Filter Your Water with Reverse Osmosis Systems

Have water that’s already fairly clean but feel like you could enhance it just a bit more? Consider Huron Water LTD.’s reverse osmosis systems.

Our reverse osmosis system offers five stages to remove contaminants from water, which forces the water through a very fine membrane and four other filters that only allows pure water molecules to pass. This process helps to reduce silt, sand, protein, dyes, formaldehyde, sodium, chloride, herbicides, pesticides, fluoride, and many other contaminants.

To complete this process, our reverse osmosis system goes through the following steps:

  1. Water passes through a five-micron sediment filter to remove suspended matter, dirt, algae, and silt.
  2. The water then goes through two pre-carbon filters. The carbon filters remove chlorine and other volatile organics from the water. As a result of the chlorine removal, the water’s taste and odour will improve and the reverse osmosis system’s membrane can maintain integrity.
  3. Past the carbon filters, the water goes through the reverse osmosis system’s membrane, which removes organics, minerals, lead, dissolved metals, chemicals, and more.
  4. The now pure water is transmitted to a holding tank, which is an essential component to the reverse osmosis system, as the process for the system is not instantaneous. Typically, the tank will sit under the counter next to the RO unit, but it can also be easily installed within a closet or crawl space.
  5. Once clean water is needed, the faucet is opened, and the clean water travels from the holding tank through a post-carbon filter to the tap on your counter. The post-carbon filter makes sure your water stays tasting crisp and clean.

Please note that there are service and replacement filters available for your reverse osmosis system at Huron Water Ltd.

The health benefits from our reverse osmosis systems and process are numerous and include protection against colds, constipation, urinary tract infections, kidney stones, and bladder cancer. They can even help hydrate your skin, leaving it smoother and softer.

Does reverse osmosis filtration remove bacteria like E. coli?

No, it is not meant for water that needs a more extensive filtration. Reverse osmosis is best suited for water that is already considered safe from bacteria and safe for human consumption. It can also handle water that is adequately disinfected or sterilized on a regular basis.

What maintenance is required for a residential reverse osmosis system?

We recommend changing your reverse osmosis filters once a year. At this time, you should also test your drinking water to make sure the reverse osmosis membrane is functioning properly. With proper maintenance, this membrane will typically last three to five years.
